Netflix Announces Release Date for Third Season of ‘Squid Game’ – the Most Popular Non-English-Language Series in Platform’s History
The third and final season of the South Korean thriller Squid Game will be released on 27 June 2025, the streaming platform Netflix has announced.
The previous season of the series became the second most popular non-English-language production in Netflix history. Since its launch, it has been viewed more than 173 million times, with a total watch time of 1.2 billion hours.
The South Korean web series Squid Game is a survival-themed, dramatic adventure action series with elements of a thriller.
The storyline of the series resembles a social experiment: a group of people are invited to participate in a series of children’s games with a chance to win a huge sum of money, but failure results in their death. In the second season, Gi-hun, Player 456, refuses to travel to the United States and returns to track down and expose the organisers behind the deadly game.
The first season of the series became a sensation immediately after its premiere in September 2021. According to Netflix, the series accumulated 1.65 billion hours of viewing time in the first 28 days after its release. The first season of Squid Game also won six Emmy Awards from 14 nominations.
The second season of Squid Game was released on 26 December. It was filmed simultaneously with the third season and became the second most popular non-English-language series in the history of the Netflix streaming platform, having been viewed more than 173 million times in a month.
The final third season will be released on 27 June 2025. The promotional poster features a game worker in a pink uniform holding a contestant by the legs, with the caption below reading: "Prepare for the final game."
