The Netherlands is allocating an additional €25 million to Ukraine for energy support ahead of winter.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to Ukrinform.

During a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel announced additional aid for the purchase of equipment, urgent repairs, and gas purchases. This support is intended to strengthen Ukraine's energy infrastructure and help millions of families survive the coldest months of the year.

Van Weel  emphasized that Russia is deliberately trying to make winter difficult for Ukrainians by attacking electricity and heat supplies. He stressed the need to do everything possible to put Ukraine in the strongest position in the face of aggression, protecting people from shortages of electricity, water, and heat.

According to the Dutch Minister, as long as Russia continues its war, causing destruction and suffering to the civilian population, international support for Ukraine remains critical to ensuring the country's stability and security.

At a press conference, the Dutch side also announced its support for the use of frozen Russian assets as a loan to Ukraine, provided that all legal and financial risks are resolved. He stressed that international support in the form of a reparations loan using frozen assets is key to strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.

“For the Netherlands, it is clear that Russia must pay for the damage it has caused to Ukraine. Therefore, the Netherlands will continue to seek an agreement on the use of Russia's frozen assets as a loan to Ukraine, provided that the legal and financial risks are resolved,” Van Weel said.

Ukrainian Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed optimism about the decision by European partners and highlighted the progress made on this issue during the first 100 days of the government headed by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. He added that discussions are currently underway on practical mechanisms for using the assets to provide immediate support to Ukraine.

As The Gaze informed earlier, the Netherlands announced a new €200 million military aid package for Ukraine, aimed at strengthening countermeasures against Russian drones and developing defense cooperation between the two countries.
