During the night, emergency services extinguished approximately 40 fires across nine regions of Ukraine due to a massive assault by Russian forces.

This was reported by the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.

Kyiv and its surrounding areas, along with Zhytomyr, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia, faced a coordinated and devastating attack.

Kyiv was hit the hardest, with responders deployed to 13 different sites. The most severe damage occurred in the Sviatoshynskyi district, where rescue operations are ongoing at a collapsed building. Engineers, rescuers, and search dogs have been mobilized, and phone calls can still be heard from beneath the rubble, indicating potential survivors. Reports indicate that two children remain unaccounted for at the scene.

As of 7:30 AM, nine fatalities have been confirmed in Kyiv due to the Russian strikes, with over 70 individuals sustaining injuries, including six children. Access to the affected areas has been restricted as emergency services continue their vital work.

Psychologists from the State Emergency Service (SES) and police are present at each site to assist victims in coping with the immediate aftermath and to identify any psychological trauma that may require further treatment.

Throughout the night, the rescue efforts were carried out amid the threat of renewed shelling. In the Zhytomyr region, the enemy struck again at the emergency services unit that had come to extinguish the fire. A 39-year-old rescuer sustained injuries.

The Ukrainian government and international organizations classify these attacks as war crimes, emphasizing their deliberate nature against civilian infrastructure. Attacks on civilians and emergency services during rescue operations have become a hallmark of Russian tactics. Ukraine has repeatedly called for a complete and immediate ceasefire to halt the ongoing killings of its citizens.

As The Gaze reported earlier, on the night of April 13, in the centre of Sumy, in eastern Ukraine, killed at least 31 people, including two children.
