Polish President Grants Citizenship to American Actor for Oscar-Winning Film ‘A Real Pain’
Polish President Andrzej Duda has granted Polish citizenship to the famous American actor Jesse Eisenberg for his film 'A Real Pain', Radio RAMPA reports.
According to it, the ceremony took place in New York. Eisenberg said that he was honoured and felt a deep connection to Poland.
According to the BBC, Jesse Eisenberg not only wrote the screenplay for the film, but also directed it and played the lead role. The film follows two American cousins who travel to Poland to honour the memory of their Holocaust survivor grandmother. The story is based on the real life of Eisenberg's aunt.
‘While we were shooting this film in Poland, I was walking the streets and started to feel a little more comfortable in the country. Something so obvious occurred to me: my family had lived in this place for much longer than we had lived in New York. That story ended so tragically,’ Eisenberg said during the citizenship ceremony.
The director said that the idea for 'A Real Pain' came after the death of his aunt Doris in 2019. She grew up in Poland but fled to the United States in 1938. The rest of the family were killed in the Holocaust.
Eisenberg was nominated for an Oscar for the film's screenplay, but the award went to his colleague Kieran Culkin as the Best Supporting Actor.
As The Gaze reported, the 50th Cesar Awards, the most prestigious award in French cinema, took place recently in France. It was dedicated to Ukraine, which was announced on stage by Catherine Deneuve, a legend of French cinema and the host of the evening.
