Princess of Wales to Attend Wimbledon Final Today: Second Public Appearance since Cancer Diagnosis
Today, Princess Kate Middleton of Wales will make her second public appearance since it became known earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She will attend the men's final of one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments, Wimbledon (London).
This was reported on the official page of Kate Middleton on Platform X.
Kensington Palace confirmed on Saturday that Kate will be in the Royal Box of the centre court on 14 July to watch the reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz play Novak Djokovic.
However, the princess will not attend Saturday's women's final between Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova. Wimbledon organisers said that Deborah Jevans, chairman of the All England Club, would present the winner's trophy instead.
Middleton has been a patron of the All England Club since 2016, and her ceremonial duties include presenting the trophy to the winner after each men's and women's singles final.
Her husband, Prince William, also regularly attends Wimbledon finals, but he will not be at Sunday's match. Instead, he will attend the football final between England and Spain at the European Championships in Germany. William is the president of the English Football Association.
Middleton has made only one public appearance since December last year - on 15 June, she attended the King Charles III birthday parade.
In January, 42-year-old Catherine underwent abdominal surgery and was diagnosed with cancer following tests. The Princess of Wales spoke about this in a video message published in late March. She said that she has been undergoing chemotherapy since February.
