Record Volume of Electricity Import to Ukraine from 5 European Countries Due to Russian Missile Attacks on Power Grid
Today, 13 May, the National Energy Company Ukrenergo has planned a record volume of electricity imports to Ukraine from five European countries.
This was reported by the press service of Ukrenergo.
Due to the daily Russian missile attacks on Ukraine's power system, a significant electricity shortage persists for most of the day. The reason for this is large-scale damage to Ukrainian power plants, which means they cannot produce as much electricity as before the attack, the statement said.
Therefore, a record volume of electricity imports from 5 European countries is planned for today. It is noted that imports will take place during the day from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Moldova. Its total volume is 19,484 MWh, with a maximum capacity of up to 1,475 MW in some hours.
Ukrenergo has also renewed restrictions on electricity consumption for industry. They will be in effect from 17:00 to 24:00. It is noted that as of 9:10 a.m. on 13 May, consumption increased by 6.7% compared to the same time on the previous business day, 10 May.
The energy company recalled that from 1 December 2023, the technical possibility of importing electricity from Europe to Ukraine and Moldova is 1,700 MW per hour.
Yesterday, on 12 May, to overcome the deficit in the power system, at the request of Ukrenergo, emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine were activated from 00:00 to 06:00 and from 20:00 to 24:00 from the power systems of Romania, Poland, and Slovakia.
Also, from 08:00 to 19:00, at the request of the Polish operator, the Ukrainian power system received surplus electricity from Poland.
As of this morning, 412 settlements in Ukraine are without power. Due to hostilities with the aggressor country Russia, there are new blackouts in Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions.
