Renowned Ukrainian Author, Oksana Zabuzhko, Joins Distinguished Jury at 74th Berlin International Film Festival

Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko has become one of the 7 members of the main competition jury of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival. This was announced on 1 February on the official website of the film festival.
The international jury of the film festival will decide who will receive the Golden and Silver Bears for Best Director, Screenplay, Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Outstanding Artistic Contribution. The jury will also award the main prize of the festival to the winners.
In addition to Oksana Zabuzhko, the winners will be determined by 6 other jury members:
- actress, director, producer and writer Lupita Nyong'o - chairman of the jury;
- actor and director Brady Corbet (USA);
- director En Hui (Hong Kong, China);
- director Christian Petzold (Germany);
- director Albert Serra (Spain);
- actress and director Jasmine Trinca (Italy).
For the second time in the history of the festival, a representative of Ukraine joined the main jury. Earlier, in 2005, it was the writer Andriy Kurkov. In addition, in 2023, the director Kateryna Hornostai was invited to join the jury of the Generation 14plus category.
This year, 20 films will compete for awards, including several Ukrainian films.
In particular, the Forum programme will feature the world premiere of Intercepted by Oksana Karpovych, a film co-produced with Canada and France.
In addition, Berlinale will present A Bit of Stranger by Svitlana Lishchynska in the Panorama Documente programme.
The festival has also selected the short film Grudge by Hlib Osatinsky. He is an American director of Ukrainian descent.
In addition, the Berlinale will host the world premiere of the Ukrainian film Editorial by Roman Bondarchuk.
The full festival programme will be available on the website from 6 February 2024. The winners will be announced on 24 February.
The Berlin International Film Festival is a category A international film festival, which is considered one of the most prestigious film festivals in Europe and the world. It has been held annually since 1951 in February.
About 400 films are presented in various sections. With more than 230,000 tickets sold and about 430,000 spectators (including film professionals), the Berlinale is called the most visited festival in the world.
