Romania's Foreign Ministry Strongly Condemns Russian Drone Intrusion Which Led to Scrambling 4 Fighter Jets

On 18 October, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the violation of airspace by a Russian drone that took place on Thursday evening. This is said in a statement of the minisetry published on the social network X.

‘Yesterday, another illegal violation of Romanian airspace took place. We strongly condemn these violations, which once again prove Russia's reckless behaviour. We will not stop helping Ukraine,’ the statement said.

According to Reuters, citing the Foreign Ministry, the radar signal indicated that the Romanian land border was crossed at around 19:00 on 17 October. The drone was heading to Romania over the Black Sea.

As a result, Romania has raised two of its own F-16 fighter jets and two Spanish F-18s, which will carry out airspace protection missions in the country until the end of the year.

Residents of Constanta County were warned to take shelter.

The Ministry of Defence also said that on Friday morning the army would search for a potential crash site.

As The Gaze previously reported, in early October, Romanian border police found the wreckage of a Russian drone in the country. Experts seized fragments of the drone of Russian origin and sent them for examination.

In this regard, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence ‘strongly condemned’ Russia's attacks on ‘certain objects and elements of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure’.
