Russia Builds Border Air Shelters Amid Drone Strikes Threat – UK Intelligence

The UK Ministry of Defence has revealed that Russia is constructing fortified shelters for its aircraft at airfields near the Ukrainian border, following repeated successful drone strikes by Ukraine, The Gaze reports.
According to a British intelligence update published on X, Russia has launched a protection program at several key airfields, including Millerovo, Kursk Vostochny, and Hvardiiske.
Satellite imagery shows ongoing construction of hardened aircraft shelters (HAS) designed to shield military assets from further uncrewed aerial system (UAS) attacks.
These shelters are dome-shaped structures with thick blast-resistant doors and are reinforced with earthen coverings to boost resilience against strikes.
Millerovo Air Base, located just 17 km from the Ukraine border, was most recently targeted by Ukrainian drones on 22 July 2025.
In addition to the hardened shelters, British intelligence notes that eight newly built drive-through aircraft shelters at the base are close to becoming operational.
