Russian Missile Strike Damages Historic Dovzhenko Film Studio

A large-scale overnight missile barrage on Kyiv by Russian forces has caused extensive damage to the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio, one of the oldest and most iconic centers of film production in the world.
The Gaze reports this, referring to the Ukrainian State Film Agency.
The blast shattered nearly 90 windows and severely damaged production facilities and parts of the studio’s hotel complex.
No casualties were reported, but the structural damage is considered the most severe the studio has suffered since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022.
The State Film Agency warned that the attack should not be seen in isolation. “The losses are not merely material; they represent a deliberate attempt by the enemy to erase memory and cultural codes that have been shaped over centuries,” the statement reads.
Founded almost a century ago, the Dovzhenko Film Studio is a cornerstone of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
It played a pioneering role in the emergence of Ukrainian poetic cinema and has long stood as a symbol of creative freedom and national resilience.
The studio nurtured landmark films such as Earth (1930) by Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Enthusiasm: Symphony of the Donbas (1931) by Dziga Vertov, and Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1965) by Serhii Paradzhanov – works that earned global acclaim and continue to influence filmmakers worldwide.
