South Korea joined the international Multi-Donor Coordination Platform to support Ukraine's immediate needs and future economic recovery and reconstruction on Wednesday, Yonhap reports, citing the country's presidential office.
South Korea, along with the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, joined the Platform during a meeting of its steering committee on Wednesday.
"By joining the Platform, we will not only work closely with key countries of the international community, including the G7, but will also continue to make efforts to ensure that our experience in overcoming the wounds of war and defending liberal democracy and market economy can contribute to the peaceful and democratic reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine," the statement said.
Seoul expects that direct participation in consultations between key donor countries will allow it to obtain detailed information on the development and trends of Ukraine's reconstruction and recovery processes more quickly and will help expand opportunities for Korean businesses to participate in them.
The Multilateral Donor Coordination Platform for Ukraine was established in January last year. It is led by the Group of Seven (G7) countries. The participants include the European Commission, Ukraine, international financial institutions and other donor countries.
As The Gaze previously wrote, a regular meeting of the contact group on Ukraine's defence in the Ramstein-19 format took place the day before. During the meeting, it was announced that 10 countries of the IT coalition had signed a 6-year cooperation agreement. Estonia and Luxembourg joined as the leading countries, as well as Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Ukraine. In addition, the United Kingdom completed its accession to the IT Coalition by signing a declaration of intent.
Also at the Ramstein meeting, seven countries joined the Latvian Drone Coalition in support of Ukraine.
