Ukraine Establishes Diplomatic Relations with Somalia

Ukraine and Somalia have officially established diplomatic relations during the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, The Gaze reports.
‘The Antalya Diplomatic Forum is a great opportunity to meet with colleagues, including those from African countries. Ukraine is interested in strengthening ties and presence,” announced Ukraine’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha.
Sybiha signed the protocol with Somalia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar. The two sides also discussed future areas of cooperation.
“Ukraine has been providing assistance to Somalia under the Grain from Ukraine programme and is ready to continue to strengthen food security. We appreciate Somalia's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Sybiha added.
In 2022, Ukraine delivered 110,000 tonnes of grain to Ethiopia and Somalia under the programme.
Africa has become a growing priority in Ukraine’s foreign policy. Former Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba made four diplomatic tours across the continent to boost strategic partnerships.
