On June 8, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an attack on the "Akhtubinsk" military airfield in the Astrakhan region, located 589 kilometres from the combat line on Ukrainian territory. As a result of the successful attack, a multirole Russian fifth-generation fighter jet, the Su-57, was hit, according to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine.

Satellite images of the aircraft parking area at the Russian military airfield confirm the successful attack by the Ukrainian military.

“The images show that on June 7, the Su-57 was intact, but by June 8, craters from explosions and characteristic fire marks, caused by the strike, had appeared near it,” reported the Ukrainian intelligence.

It is noted that such close explosions and the ensuing fire would have significantly damaged the aircraft and rendered it inoperative.

The Su-57 is Russia's most advanced fighter jet, capable of launching Kh-59 and Kh-69 missiles. Only a few of these combat aircraft are in service with the Russian army. The intelligence directorate also notes that this successful attack is the first in history. Previously, no fifth-generation fighter jet from any country (currently, these are in service with the USA and Russia, and undergoing flight tests in China) had been hit in combat operations.

It is worth mentioning that The Gaze reported that at the end of May, the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck a military oil terminal and ferry crossing at the port of "Kavkaz", located in the Krasnodar region of Russia on the Black Sea coast.

“Several shots were fired at the oil terminal in the port of 'Kavkaz' using domestically produced missiles from the coastal missile complex 'Neptune'. The results of objective control confirm explosions in designated locations. The accuracy of the strikes is being verified. The complex operation was conducted in coordination with other components of the Defence Forces of Ukraine,” reported the Ukrainian General Staff.

According to Ukrainian military sources, the successful attack took place early in the morning of May 31, after the Armed Forces of Ukraine delivered precise strikes the previous evening, disabling ferries at the Kerch crossing in temporarily occupied Crimea. These ferries, which travelled to the port of "Kavkaz", were used for the military logistics of the Russian aggressors.
