Ukrainian athletes delivered a standout performance at the 2025 European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Albania, collecting a total of 25 medals and securing a place among the top five national teams on the continent.

The Gaze reports this, referring to Suspilne.

The tournament, held from October 28 to November 4, brought together Europe’s most promising young weightlifters. Ukraine fielded a delegation of 23 athletes competing in both the junior (U20) and U23 categories, with 13 of them reaching the podium at least once.

The undisputed highlight of the competition came from Olha Ivzhenko, who became the absolute U23 European champion in the 58-kg weight class after winning gold in all three disciplines – the snatch, clean and jerk, and the combined total.

In the U20 category, Danylo Chyniakov claimed the European title in the 110-kg division and shattered two junior continental records by lifting 171 kg in the snatch and 374 kg in total.

Another gold medal came from Maksym Dombrovskyi, who triumphed in the men’s 94-kg category with a combined lift of 363 kg, despite finishing second in both the snatch and the clean and jerk individually.

Silver medals went to Alina Daderko, Bohdan Hoza, and Iryna Dombrovska, while Kateryna Malashchuk, Hanna Kalashnyk, and Yuliia Kovalova each earned bronze in their respective divisions. Malashchuk also set new European youth records (U17) in the clean and jerk and in the total lift.

Ukraine secured nine “big” medals, three gold, three silver, and three bronze, which placed the team fourth overall in the primary medal table, trailing only Armenia, Turkey, and Georgia.

“The Ukrainian national weightlifting team has once again made a loud statement on the European stage! Our sportsmen have once again proven – we belong to the elite of European weightlifting,” Ukrainian weightlifting federation stated.

As The Gaze reported earlier, the Ukrainian national mixed martial arts team won first place at the World Mixed Martial Arts Championship.
