For the first time, Ukraine will present a national stand at one of the largest book fairs in the world - Liber | Feria Internacional del Libro in Barcelona from 1 to 3 October 2024.

The Liber International Book Fair is the largest Spanish-language platform in Europe for publishing professionals, bringing together more than 350 publishers from around the world.

Ukraine's participation in this event opens up new opportunities for the promotion of literature in the international arena, particularly in Spanish-speaking countries.

The Ukrainian stand is organised with the support of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Barcelona, the Ukrainian Book Institute, the Frontera literary platform and other partners.

13 Ukrainian publishers will present their publications, including: Vivat; Chas Masters; Folio; Ranok; Bohdan; ACCA; OVO Literary Agency; Staryi Lev Publishing House and others.

The fair will also feature a panel discussion ‘Can literature change anything?’ (¿Puede la literatura cambiar las cosas?). The participants will discuss whether words and texts have real power in the twenty-first century, as well as the role of literature in the contemporary reality of wars and geopolitical shifts.

The discussion will be attended by:

Professor of Political Science at the University of Pablo de Olavide;

Guillermo Colom Pieja, Advisor to the Chief of the General Staff of the Spanish Defence Forces, member of the Centre for Innovation of the Joint Transformation Command, author of four books on Ukraine;

Miguel Gutiérrez Garítano, Spanish traveller, researcher, writer, honorary member of the Astronomical and Geographical Society of Ciudad Real;

David de Jong, international investigative journalist, author of the book Billionaire Nazis;

writer, singer and journalist Irena Karpa.

The event will be moderated by PEN Ukraine's Executive Director, journalist and cultural manager Tetyana Teren.
