Ukraine Under Another Deadly Terrorist Russian Missile Attack – Historic Centre of Odesa, Poltava, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia Hit
Each terrorist act of the Russian Federation proves that Ukraine needs more support from its partners and increased pressure on the aggressor country, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
‘Last night, Russia attacked our cities using various types of weapons: missiles, attack drones, and air bombs. Another terrorist crime,’ Zelenskyy said.
In the Ukrainian city of Poltava, as a result of a Russian missile strike on a residential building on the morning of 1 February, three people were killed and ten others were injured, including a child. This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Emergency rescue operations are ongoing, the SES said. Russian troops also attacked Poltava region, and there is damage to the energy infrastructure in the Myrhorod district.
At least four people were injured as a result of Russia's strike on the Kholodnohirsky district of Kharkiv on the morning of 1 February. One person was killed. 20 houses were damaged. A fire broke out in a private house at the site of the hit. This was reported by Mayor Ihor Terekhov and the head of the Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov. Due to the Russian attack, emergency power outages were introduced in Kharkiv region and six other regions, Ukrenergo reported.
On the night of 1 February, the Russian army attacked Zaporizhzhia with 18 Shahed attack drones, said Ivan Fedorov, head of the JMA. The shelling damaged an educational institution, an infrastructure facility, multi-storey buildings and private homes. More than 400 people were left without electricity. This is the most massive attack on the city in recent times.
On the evening of 31 January, the Russian army launched a missile attack from the Black Sea on the historic centre of Odesa. Seven people were injured in the attack. The authorities reported that the Russian army attacked the city with ballistic missiles, presumably of the Iskander type.
Museums, the philharmonic and historical buildings under UNESCO protection were damaged. Norwegian diplomats were at the epicentre of the strike, and they were not injured.
The Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war. Rescue services are working to eliminate the consequences.
