Ukrainian Director Tanu Muiño Wins an Award for Lady Gaga Video

Ukrainian director Tanu Muiño has won the Director of the Year award at the Hollywood Music Video Awards 2025 for her work on Lady Gaga’s music video for the song “Disease.”
In the video, Gaga’s character confronts different versions of herself as she struggles to regain control over her deepest fears. The video also took home the award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
The Hollywood Music Video Awards is an annual international festival and award show held in Los Angeles, California to celebrate the art of music videos. According to organizers, the award celebrates creators who “deserve more accreditation for exceeding expectations and pushing creative boundaries in music videos each year."
The “Disease” video was also recognized internationally, winning Best Video by a Solo Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2025.
Tanu Muiño, born in Odesa, Ukraine, is a prominent Hollywood-based director known for her visionary style. She has worked with global music stars including Harry Styles, Cardi B, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, Rosalía, Elton John, Britney Spears, Sam Smith, Doja Cat, and many others.
In 2021, Muiño won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Direction alongside Lil Nas X for the video “Montero (Call Me by Your Name).” Her direction of Harry Styles’ “As It Was” was nominated for the same award in 2022. What is more, the director for nominated for Grammy.
As The Gaze previously reported, Muiño also directed the stage performance of Ukraine’s representatives at Eurovision 2024, alyona alyona and Jerry Heil.
