US and UK Impose New Large-Scale Sanctions on Russian Oil Industry
The United States and the United Kingdom have announced sanctions against Russia's largest oil companies, Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz.
This is reported in an official statement by the US Treasury Department and the British government.
Russian insurance companies that provide insurance for ships have also been subject to restrictions: Ingosstrakh and AlfaStrakhovanie.
The sanctions will reportedly hit the Russian oil refining industry.
The measures include the blacklisting of 183 vessels of the Russian ‘shadow fleet’ involved in energy exports from Russia. In particular, the restrictions apply to vessels of Sovcomflot, which is the largest shipping company in Russia.
Dozens of traders, Russian companies providing services for oil production, and energy sector officials were also sanctioned.
Rosneft's subsidiary, Rosnefteflot, was also sanctioned.
Senior officials of the state-owned Rosatom have also been added to the sanctions list.
As The Gaze previously reported, in 2024, Europe bought a record amount of liquefied natural gas from Russia despite the EU's efforts to abandon fossil fuels that finance Putin's military treasury.
