US Envoy Witkoff to Meet Ukrainians in New York, Calls It ‘Big Signal’

U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff said he will meet Ukrainian representatives in New York this week, describing this as “a big signal” of Washington’s continued engagement in efforts to end Russia’s war.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Reuters.
Speaking after President Donald Trump’s cabinet meeting in Washington, Witkoff confirmed that the United States remains in daily contact with Moscow while also deepening dialogue with Kyiv.
“I'm meeting with the Ukrainians this week. So I will be meeting with them this week in New York, and that's a big signal. We talk to the Russians every day,” Witkoff told reporters, according to Reuters.
He suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be exploring ways to wind down the conflict. “I think he (Putin) has made a good faith effort to engage. He certainly did at the Alaska summit. But it's a very complicated conflict.”
Earlier this month, Trump held separate meetings with Putin in Alaska and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington. The U.S. president has said he aims to bring both leaders together.
Witkoff hinted that such direct involvement may be decisive. “My own opinion is that President Trump is going to be needed at the table to finish a deal,” he said.
At the same time, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff expressed confidence that a compromise could be reached within the coming months, paving the way for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia before the end of 2025 or even earlier.
“Our working groups are actively focused on this issue, and we believe that by the end of the year, perhaps well before then, we will be able to develop a formula for a peace deal,” he stated.
