U.S. to Send More Military Aid to Ukraine at Trump’s Direction

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the United States will send additional weapons to Ukraine, primarily defensive in nature, to help the country defend itself against renewed Russian military advances, The Gaze reports.
“We’re going to send some more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves,” Trump told reporters at the White House during a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “They’re getting hit very hard now. We’re going to have to send more weapons, defensive weapons, primarily.”
The announcement follows a wave of criticism over the recent decision by the Trump administration to pause some weapons shipments to Kyiv — a move that Ukrainian officials said weakened their ability to repel Russian airstrikes and front-line pushes. The decision also drew backlash from Democrats and several Republicans in Congress.
Later in the evening, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed the shift in position. In a statement, Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell said:
“At President Trump’s direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure the killing stops.”
While no specific systems or timelines were disclosed, U.S. defense officials indicated that the aid would focus on enhancing Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian missile and drone attacks.
The move signals a partial reversal after weeks of uncertainty around U.S. military assistance to Ukraine. Analysts say it also reflects increasing pressure on Washington to reassert its support for Kyiv, especially amid escalating Russian offensives across multiple front lines.
As The Gaze previously reported, on July 2, the United States halted shipments of certain air defense missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine due to growing concerns about the depletion of its own weapons stockpiles.
