U.S. Urges UN to Back Ceasefire Deal in Ukraine Before August 8

The United States is calling on the United Nations Security Council to support a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine by August 8, The Gaze reports.
Addressing the 15-member Security Council on July 31, senior U.S. diplomat John Kelly stated that Washington believes the time has come for both sides to reach a lasting peace agreement.
“Both Russia and Ukraine must negotiate a ceasefire and durable peace. It is time to make a deal,” Kelly told the Council. “President Trump has made clear this must be done by August 8. The United States is prepared to implement additional measures to secure peace.”
Trump’s timeline for ending the war has grown increasingly urgent. On July 14, during talks with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, the U.S. President warned that unless progress toward a truce is made within 50 days, Russia would face “very tough tariffs.”
While praising Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate, Trump criticized Moscow for “just talking” without taking action.
Less than two weeks later, during a visit to Scotland on July 28, Trump announced he was shortening the deadline: “Ten to twelve days from today,” he said. “There’s no point in waiting.”
And on July 29, U.S. President has given Russia a 10-day deadline, starting Tuesday, to end its military offensive against Ukraine or face sweeping economic retaliation, including new tariffs and other punitive measures.
