World Record and 26 Medals for Ukrainian Para-Athletes at the European Athletics Championships

At the European Athletics Championships for athletes with intellectual disabilities, the Ukrainian team, comprising 15 athletes with disabilities, competed against athletes from 13 countries and won 26 medals: 11 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze. The championship was held in Uppsala, Sweden, and was organised by the international federation Virtus, according to the National Sports Committee for the Disabled of Ukraine.
In both the women's and men's overall standings, Ukrainian athletes finished in the top three. The women's team placed second with 64 points, trailing Turkey (97), while the men's team came third with 96 points, behind Portugal (115) and Spain (106).
One of the most successful performances was by Paralympic champion Maksym Koval. He won two titles in discus throw and shot put. Koval set a new world record in the II1 class with his first discus throw of 49.87 meters. In shot put, Koval broke the European Championship record with a throw of 17.15 meters on his third attempt. These achievements earned him the title of best male athlete of the tournament.
In both events, Koval shared the podium with another Ukrainian, Oleksandr Yarovyi from Kremenchuk, who won silver in shot put and bronze in discus throw.
The most decorated athlete of the Ukrainian team was runner Lyudmyla Danylina from the Kyiv region. She won the 800 m race with a personal best of 2:20.34 minutes, and also finished first in the 1500 m (4:46.79 minutes) and 3000 m (11:04.06 minutes) events.
In the 3000 m race, Danylina won by over two seconds ahead of another Ukrainian, Iryna Kandyba, who finished second (11:06.11 minutes). Kandyba, in turn, won gold in the 5000 m with a time of 19:38.85 minutes.
Lyudmyla Danylina also twice reached the podium in women's relay events. Alongside Ruslana Muravska, Olha Zazuliak, and Yelyzaveta Ilyenko, she finished second in the 4x100 m relay (55.10 seconds) and third in the 4x400 m relay (4:25.28 minutes).
