Zelenskyy Discusses Air Defense Boost and Financial Support with Merz

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed key issues of security and financial support for Ukraine with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to the Office of the President of Ukraine.
On the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“During the meeting with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, I briefly informed him about our key needs,” he wrote on Telegram.
The leaders discussed strengthening Ukraine's air defense, in particular the supply of Patriot systems and missiles, as well as the implementation of financial initiatives, including the third PURL package worth $500 million.
Special attention was paid to the use of frozen Russian assets for the country's recovery and new financial support instruments.
The parties also agreed on further steps regarding security guarantees and the preparation of intergovernmental consultations.
“I am grateful to Germany for its consistent support of Ukraine. Germany is among the leaders in providing assistance, and this is very important to us,” Zelenskyy stated.
On the same day, German Ambassador Heiko Tomms confirmed Germany's commitment to defense cooperation with Ukraine and support for its European future during a meeting with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
The diplomat stressed that Germany stands with Ukraine both during and after the war and expressed his willingness to deepen the bilateral partnership.
“Your future is our future. Cooperation in the field of defense is key, and we are fully committed to this cause,” he wrote.
As The Gaze informed earlier, Germany will transfer two more Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine by the end of 2025 with the support of Norway.
