Another 115 Defenders of Ukraine's Independence Return Home from Russian Captivity
On Independence Day, Ukraine returned 115 more Ukrainian prisoners of war from Russian captivity with the assistance of the United Arab Emirates.
This was reported by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on social media.
‘Another 115 of our defenders returned home today. These are soldiers of the National Guard, the Armed Forces, the Navy, and the State Border Guard Service,’ Zelensky wrote.
He also thanked each unit that replenishes the Ukrainian exchange fund.
Among those released are 9 illegally convicted defenders of Ukraine, sailors and 3 border guards, as well as 82 defenders of Mariupol (fifty of them defended Azovstal).
Also returning home are six National Guardsmen from the garrison guarding the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, and soldiers who defended Kyiv, Donetsk, Kherson and Luhansk regions.
According to the Coordination Headquarters, many of the liberated Ukrainian servicemen have health problems as a result of their injuries and Russia's failure to comply with international humanitarian law in captivity. All of them will undergo a medical examination, receive the necessary treatment, psychological assistance, reintegrate into our society and receive their due payments.
