Berlinale 2024 Opens: World Premiere of Ukrainian Film 'Redaktsiya' and Most Anticipated Festival Films

The Berlin Film Festival starts today, 15 February, in Germany. This year's most anticipated premieres include the thriller Love, Lies and Bloodshed with KristenStewart, a new indie work by Cillian Murphy and the science fiction Astronaut by the director of the Chernobyl series.
The Berlinale will also host the world premiere of Redaktsiya by Ukrainian director Roman Bondarchuk, which was filmed in the Kherson region on the eve of the invasion.
As usual, the Berlinale will host hundreds of films from around the world, with the most famous premiering in the competition section, which features enough big names to rival the likes of Cannes and Venice: Olivier Assayas, Hong Sang-soo, Mati Diop and the great Abderrahmane Sissako will present new works at Palast over the next two weeks.
Since its inception in 1951, the Berlin International Film Festival (or Berlinale) has consistently been one of the most exciting and prestigious film festivals in the world. Over the years, it has grown in both attendance and submissions and has gained a reputation for programming some of the most compelling films the European and international film industries have to offer.
The Berlinale will run from 15 to 25 February 2024.
You can watch the opening night live on the festival's website tonight.
As The Gaze previously wrote, this year, the famous Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko joined the main jury of the 74th Berlin International Film Festival.
