Germany Hosts Fifth Ukrainian Film Festival in Berlin
The fifth Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin (UFFB) has started in the German capital Berlin.
‘This year's theme, ‘The Art of Being Free’, explores liberation from both external constraints and internal suppression,’ reads the festival description.
The festival is dedicated to contemporary Ukrainian auteur cinema, with a focus on liberation from external influences and internal constraints. Particular attention will be paid to decolonisation processes in Ukraine and post-Soviet countries, including Armenia and Georgia, the Ukrainian State Film Agency reports.
This year's festival will run from 23 to 28 October.
The State Film Agency said that the audience at the festival in Beryllium will be shown restored versions of the legendary films Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors and The Colour of Pomegranate on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Sergei Parajanov on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian film director.
This year, the festival will also include a short film competition and a non-competition programme of shorts for the first time. The festival opens on 23 October with Fragments of Ice by Marina Stoyanova.
In total, the event programme includes 14 feature films. In addition, according to the Visit Berlin website, which provides detailed information about cultural events in the German capital, the festival will include public readings and a number of other events.
This year's film festival opens at the Colosseum cinema on Prezlauer Berg.
