Japan has disbursed nearly €48 million in grant funding to support Ukraine’s reconstruction under the country’s Emergency Recovery Program.

The Gaze reports this, referring to Ukraine’s Ministry for Communities and Territories Development.

The transfer, amounting to 8.8 billion Japanese yen, or roughly €47.7 million, was confirmed following a meeting between Ukrainian officials and Masahiro Takehana, Deputy Head of Mission at the Japanese Embassy in Ukraine.

The funds constitute Phase 4 of Japan’s Emergency Recovery Program for Ukraine and are earmarked for priority sectors including humanitarian demining, energy infrastructure, and water supply systems – areas seen as critical to restoring basic living conditions and strengthening community resilience amid ongoing security challenges.

“Japan’s support is consistent and highly tangible,” said Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba. “These resources will directly enhance safety and everyday life for Ukrainians by addressing demining needs, stabilizing energy systems, and restoring access to water.”

Japanese officials also confirmed that the country’s parliament has approved an additional budget enabling the launch of Phase 5 of the Emergency Recovery Program. The decision will allow Japan to continue financing grant-based projects in Ukraine while expanding technical assistance on the ground.

Discussions during the meeting covered the status of joint projects, cooperation through the JUPITeR platform, and ongoing grant support provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The sides also reviewed preparations for a second JUPITeR mission to Ukraine, including the selection of Japanese companies expected to visit the country in March.

As The Gaze reported earlier, the Japanese company Nojima Corporation announced an allocation of 200 million yen for the projects of the Olena Zelenska Foundation to support Ukrainian children.
