New Ukrainian Foreign Minister Holds First Official Talks with Poland
Ukraine's new Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, held his first telephone talks after being appointed to the post, which was approved the day before.
Sybiha wrote about this on the X network.
Sybiha's first partner in the phone calls was Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
‘This morning, I had my first phone conversation as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine with my Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski to reaffirm the Ukrainian-Polish strategic partnership and good neighbourly relations,’ the Ukrainian Foreign Minister wrote.
According to him, ‘Ukraine and Poland have a common enemy and a common goal - to keep our bilateral ties strong.’ He added that the conversation took place in Polish ‘as a sign of respect’.
‘I look forward to welcoming my Polish counterpart to Kyiv soon. I thanked Poland for its support of Ukraine, informed Minister Sikorski about the situation at the front and stressed the importance of further strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities,’ Sybiha added.
On 5 September, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted to appoint Andriy Sybiha as Minister of Foreign Affairs to replace Dmytro Kuleba.
Commenting on this appointment, Poland hinted at a positive assessment of the new foreign minister.
Sybiha has been Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrii Yermak since the end of May 2021, where he was responsible for foreign policy.
In April 2024, he was appointed First Deputy Foreign Minister.
