Poland's New Prime Minister Arrives for Talks on Border Unlock with Ukraine

The head of the Polish government, Donald Tusk, arrived in Ukraine on Monday, January 22, for an official visit, as announced by the Polish Prime Minister's office on Twitter.
"Prime Minister Donald Tusk begins his visit to Kyiv, where he will meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal," the announcement stated.
Donald Tusk's trip to Ukraine had been announced in advance. It is expected that during this visit, discussions will focus on the issue of unlocking the border with Ukraine. In particular, Tusk had stated at the end of December that he would bring a "serious proposal" from Kyiv to ease the situation for Polish carriers.
In one of his recent interviews, Donald Tusk emphasized that the situation in Ukraine and on the front line is the top priority for Polish security, both personally for him and for Polish President Andrzej Duda. Therefore, the topics of defence and military support for Ukraine are likely to be addressed during the visit of the Polish Prime Minister.
In early January, Tusk also warned that if Europe does not draw the right conclusions from the reorientation of the Russian economy towards war and does not significantly strengthen the defense-industrial complex, Russia could attack European countries within a few years.
Earlier, The Gaze reported that Polish President Andrzej Duda met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Davos during the World Economic Forum. The leaders discussed the support needed for Ukraine to defend against Russian aggression, as well as the issue of Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The Polish President's office stated that Poland sees Ukraine as a full member of NATO, and preparations for accession could even begin during a conflict.
"Joining NATO is impossible during a war, but I believe that Ukraine should receive an invitation that would initiate discussions in the national parliaments of member countries. This process could progress, and it would be crucial for the morale of Ukraine's defenders," said Andrzej Duda at that time.
Duda emphasized that Ukraine's presence in NATO is essential for strengthening the Alliance as a whole and ensuring the security of Poland. He also noted that Ukraine should strive for full membership in the European Union.
