Spanish Artist to Become the World's First Woman to Marry an AI-Generated Hologram
Alicia Framis, an Italian artist based in Barcelona, is set to make history as the first woman in the world to marry an AI. El Pais reports on her groundbreaking project.
"Imagine having a partner who is there when you need them, relationships combating loneliness in cities. It's a romantic connection between a person and artificial intelligence," explains the artist on her Instagram account.
Her partner is an "intellectual hologram" named AiLex, satisfying all her emotional needs. Alicia has initiated a performative project titled "Hybrid Couple," intertwining art, technology, and emotions.
"The First Woman to Marry an AI" is the title of the inaugural performance, where Framis "celebrates her union with artificial intelligence, a holographic sculpture created from profiles of her former partners," according to her statement.
Alicia clarifies that the project spans various spheres, including documentary, sculptural exploration, drawing, music, architecture, fashion design, and the marriage ritual. She plans to collaborate with technologists and European thinkers for this endeavour.
"The AI subject, created using profiles of people you know. The goal is to share life and emotions, engaging with various contemporary discussions such as posthumanism, virtuality, and complex intersections of gender in intimate and social spaces, including its dissolution," Alicia explains.
Furthermore, she anticipates that "robots and humans will soon become sexual partners," emphasizing the importance of the "next significant step of emotionally connecting people with artificial intelligence."
The artist leverages this project to explore the integration of artificial intelligence into daily life and art, recognizing the increasing prevalence of this tool and acknowledging the potential dangers if not properly regulated.
As The Gaze previously reported, European Union countries agreed on rules that will regulate artificial intelligence in the EU. The regulation will apply to systems such as ChatGPT. EU officials hope for the support of legislators in regulating AI. Consistency will open up new opportunities for the introduction of artificial intelligence, in particular, in the EU defence sector.
