Sweden has announced a sweeping revision of its international aid strategy, unlocking an additional 1.67 billion Swedish kronor (approximately €150 million) to support Ukraine and other urgent humanitarian priorities.

The Gaze reports on this with reference to European Pravda.

The Swedish government said the reallocation of funds would be achieved by reassessing existing aid commitments across multiple regions, while explicitly safeguarding and expanding support for Ukraine and its neighbors.

“We live in a turbulent world marked by numerous crises,” said Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa. “In many places, including Ukraine, Sudan, Gaza, and Yemen, human suffering is immense. The situation in several countries has further deteriorated due to the U.S. decision to suspend part of its aid. Sweden must step up.”

While acknowledging that Sweden cannot fully offset the U.S. aid cuts, Dousa emphasized that the country has a responsibility to act decisively.

The minister also confirmed that the revised aid priorities will not affect funding directed toward Ukraine and adjacent regions, which he described as “vital to Europe’s stability and security.”

“As Russia continues its indiscriminate bombardment of civilian infrastructure, targeting hospitals, schools, playgrounds, and homes, it is clear that more international support is needed,” Dousa stated. “Ukraine is not only defending its own sovereignty, but the very principles upon which European peace and freedom are built.”

As The Gaze reported earlier, Sweden is allocating €50 million to NATO's NSATU (NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine) and NATO CAP (Comprehensive Assistance Package) projects for Ukraine, which are responsible for training Ukrainian military personnel.
