Ukraine and Poland Deepen Ties on EU Integration and Regional Development

Ukraine and Poland are set to strengthen cooperation in European integration and regional development, following a high-level meeting between Oleksii Riabykin, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Communities and Territorial Development, and Polish officials Jan Szyszko and Marcin Chrusciel, The Gaze reports, citing the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
The talks focused on reconstruction, decentralization, and Poland’s continued support for Ukraine’s EU aspirations. Riabykin highlighted Poland’s role in sharing best practices and training Ukrainian specialists, calling it “an invaluable contribution to our sustainable regional development.”
The parties discussed a forthcoming Memorandum of Cooperation, set to be signed on May 20 in Warsaw. The agreement will outline key areas of joint work, including Ukraine’s alignment with EU cohesion policy, future management of structural funds, and strengthening institutional capacity at the regional level.
They also proposed a Polish-Ukrainian working group to support Ukraine’s preparations for negotiating Chapter 22 of EU accession law, focused on regional policy and structural instruments.
Poland’s experience, officials noted, will be instrumental in helping Ukraine prepare for the upcoming EU screening process.
