Ukraine Cuts Reliance on Imports of Weaponry: More Than Half Now Made Domestically
Ukraine demonstrates a steady strengthening of its domestic defense industry, with more than half of all weapons on the frontlines now produced locally.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to Unian.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko stated that over half of the Ukrainian army’s weapons are manufactured by domestic producers, and one of the main priorities for 2026 is to further increase the country’s defense capabilities.
According to her, in 2025, more than 75% of funds allocated for the procurement of weapons and military equipment went to Ukrainian manufacturers.
“We fully understand that the army is our guarantee of security,” Svyrydenko said.
She emphasized that Ukrainian producers, both private and state-owned, constantly cooperate with the military, adapting production to current conditions on the frontlines and enhancing the efficiency of weapons.
“They continuously work to expand production capacity and improve effectiveness by constantly adapting to changes on the battlefield. Ensuring independence in defense production is extremely important for us,” Svyrydenko added.
At the same time, one of the strategic goals for 2026 is to increase the share of Ukrainian-made weapons on the frontlines and strengthen the country’s ability to independently ensure its defense. This aims to guarantee national security and reduce reliance on external sources.
Ukraine is also advancing its semiconductor independence, preparing to start its first cleanroom for chip development and research in 2026. Domestic production of microchips is seen to be crucial not only for civilian applications but also for military technologies.
Beyond these achievements, Ukraine’s defense industry is proving increasingly competitive on the global scale. To further expand its global footprint, the Ukrainian Defense Manufacturers’ Council has launched an Export Support Office, enabling Ukrainian defense companies to enter international markets.
As The Gaze reported earlier, for the first time in history, a Ukrainian company, Ukrainian Defense Industry (Ukroboronprom), has entered the global ranking of the largest arms manufacturers.
