The International Organization for Migration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine have launched the Diaspora Alliance for Ukraine’s Recovery as a platform for cooperation with the Ukrainian diaspora.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to Ukrinform.

The presentation took place on December 15 at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, with the participation of government officials, representatives of Ukrainian civic organizations, diplomatic missions, and international partners.

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Maryana Betza, the initiative has symbolic significance and is aimed at supporting Ukraine’s recovery, especially in the context of Russia’s full-scale aggression.

The Alliance’s goals are to promote dialogue between the diaspora, the Ukrainian government, and international partners, recognize the role of migrants in development and innovation, and identify opportunities for cooperation aligned with the country’s national recovery priorities.

Betza emphasized the importance of the global Ukrainian community as a strategic resource, noting that over 5.8 million Ukrainians live abroad, while more than 4 million are internally displaced. She highlighted that Ukrainians abroad strongly support the country and are an important strategic resource.

"Ukrainians abroad are our citizen-ambassadors. They support the state financially, provide humanitarian aid, and advocate for its interests. Sometimes, where the government’s voice is not effective enough, the voice of society works," stressed the Deputy Foreign Minister.

The Alliance was created following consultations with over 40 diaspora organizations. The Ministry cooperates with more than 680 Ukrainian civic organizations and over 480 cultural and educational centers in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Betza also drew attention to the critical need for humanitarian program funding, emphasizing that support from the IOM in emergency response, including winter assistance, is extremely important.

One of most recent great examples of similar initiatives is the Global Ukraine Foundation, founded by Violeta Moskalu, that mobilizes the diaspora’s intellectual, financial, and social capital to support initiatives from cultural diplomacy and education to entrepreneurship, technological solutions, and defense support. Through the KViTKA neobank, the foundation provides Ukrainian professionals and entrepreneurs with cross-border financial tools to transform diaspora remittances into systematic investment for Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction

The Ukrainian diaspora continues to be a powerful resource for Ukraine, mobilizing global support for the country’s defense, recovery, and unity. In 2025, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) coordinated over 2,000 events in 75 countries, advocating at international institutions, supporting diaspora communities, and promoting key measures such as the return of deported children and the use of frozen Russian assets for reconstruction.

As The Gaze reported earlier, the UWC delivered critical military and medical equipment worth over 20 million Canadian dollars in 2025 alone and restored electricity for four million Ukrainians affected by Russian attacks. The organization also supported major policy reforms, including the Law on Multiple Citizenship, reconnecting millions abroad with their homeland and enabling active participation in Ukraine’s rebuilding.
