Ukrainian Gymnast Wins Olympic Silver in Paris

Ukrainian gymnast Ilya Kovtun won a silver medal in the parallel bars at the Olympic Games in Paris.

This is Ukraine's first medal at the Olympic Games in artistic gymnastics. The 20-year-old athlete earned 15,500 points for his programme.
This was Kovtun's third individual final at the 2024 Olympics.
In the final, Kovtun competed for a medal against Zhang Boheng, the silver medallist of the 2024 Olympic Games in the all-around, as well as medallists from the previous Olympics in the parallel bars: Zou Jingyuan, Lucas Dauser and Ferhat Arıcan.
Zou Jingyuan won the gold medal, the Chinese gymnast performed his programme flawlessly and received 16,200 points. Jinyuan is the Olympic champion on the parallel bars in Tokyo 2020. In Paris 2024, he won silver in the rings exercise and also has two medals in the team competition - bronze in Tokyo and silver in Paris.
Shinnosuke Oka of Japan, who is a two-time Olympic champion, won the bronze medal. The Japanese gymnast won gold in Paris 2024 in the team championship and individual all-around.
