Ukrainian high jumpers and 2024 Olympic medallists Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Iryna Gerashchenko have been invited to the Diamond League stage in Lausanne.

This was reported by Suspilne Sport.

The athletics competitions in Switzerland will be the first after the Games in Paris and will take place on 22 August.

At the Olympics, Ukrainian athletes won two awards - Yaroslava Mahuchikh became the Olympic champion, conquering the 2.00 metre bar, while Iryna Gerashchenko took the bronze medal with a result of 1.95 metres.

The Ukrainians' rivals at the Diamond League stage will be their rivals for the Olympic medals. Thus, the silver medallist of the 2024 Games, Nicola Olyslagers, and the second bronze medallist, Eleanor Patterson, also received invitations to compete in Switzerland.

These are high jumpers who will compete at the Diamond League stage in Lausanne:

  • Lamara Disten (Jamaica)
  • Marite Engondo (Switzerland)
  • Iryna Gerashchenko (Ukraine)
  • Christina Honsel (Germany)
  • Ella Junnila (Finland)
  • Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine)
  • Nawal Meniker (France)
  • Nicola Olyslagers (Australia)
  • Eleanor Patterson (Australia)
  • Safina Sadullayeva (Uzbekistan)

This season, Yaroslava Mahuchikh competed at two stages of the Diamond League. Thus, the Ukrainian jumped in Stockholm and Paris and won both competitions.

Also, at the stage in France, the athlete set a new world record by clearing 2.10 metres.

Iryna Gerashchenko competed at the stages in Doha, Stockholm and Paris. However, while in Qatar and Sweden the athlete finished on the podium (second and third place, respectively), on the eve of the 2024 Olympics in France she took only seventh place.

As The Gaze previously reported, Yaroslava Mahuchikh recently donated one million hryvnias of her prize money from the 2024 Olympics to Ukrainian animal rights activists.
