A 4-year-old Czech girl has set a new world record by independently reaching the base camp for the ascent of Mount Everest at an altitude of 5,364 meters. She surpassed the previous world record held by a 5-year-old Indian boy.

At the age of four, Zara is now the youngest person to have reached this altitude on Mount Everest. Two Czech children, aged 4 and 7, travelled with their father for almost three weeks in the Himalayas and hiked to Everest's base camp at an altitude of over 5 kilometres.

In total, the children covered almost 300 kilometres in the Himalayan mountains, facing temperatures as low as minus 25 degrees Celsius, outpacing hundreds of other trekking adult tourists in their physical preparation.

"The entire expedition lasted about a month. We set off on December 14 and covered about 270 kilometres. From Jiri, we walked through Lukla and Namche Bazaar to the base camp, covering a distance of 170 kilometres. We arrived there on January 1. On the way back, we went to Salleri, approximately 100 kilometres, where we arrived on January 10. From there, we travelled by jeep to Kathmandu. Overall, we climbed over 20,000 meters," said Zara's father.

According to him, the environment compels children to acquire both physical and academic knowledge. They do not study complex mathematics, for example, but are well-versed in the environment, thousands of plants, stars, and the laws of nature. They simultaneously learn social skills by living in groups, making them much more advanced than Western European children. Moreover, these children do not cry, do not get upset, are modest, and are accustomed to helping each other.

Currently, the record-breaking girl lives with her family in Malaysia, walking several kilometres to kindergarten every day. According to her father, in 2023, the child covered about 2,200 kilometres through Malaysian jungles.

"It's nice to run here with Zara; the jungles are incomparably more challenging," says her brother Sasha. "Here in the Himalayas, the trails are much better than in the rough terrain of the jungles."

Even the freezing temperatures posed no problems for the two children. To toughen up, they only take cold baths at home and, of course, add extra ice.

Over the weekend, they successfully returned to civilization after their high-altitude adventure, with joyful smiles on their faces.
