Croatia Reinstates Mandatory Military Service from 1 January 2025
Croatia will reintroduce compulsory military service from 1 January 2025. It will last for two months.
This was announced by Croatian Defence Minister Ivan Anušić, Danas reports.
According to him, the circumstances in which Europe finds itself do not allow Croatia to save on the army.
‘The service will last for two months, starting on 1 January 2025, and we will simply continue to do everything we have communicated with society. We have increased the salaries of soldiers, sergeants and officers, their material rights not only through personal income, but also through per diems and everything they are entitled to,’ Anušić said.
The Croatian Defence Minister believes that the country will have a stronger and better image of the Armed Forces than before.
‘We are equipping and modernising the Armed Forces. We are organising them as expected and as we have agreed with our NATO allies and the NATO summit,’ Anušić said.
As a reminder, Croatia abolished mandatory conscription in 2008. Since then, military service has been voluntary.
