Electricity will be Supplied to 150 Thousand People: Estonia to Provide Ukraine with 200 MW Power Unit
The Estonian government will help Ukraine overcome the consequences of Russian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure by transferring a 200 MW generator. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a meeting of the Ukrainian government.
‘The Energy Support Fund of Ukraine already has more than €494 million in transferred and announced contributions. We expect that there will be much more. In particular, Australia has recently declared more than $12 million in contributions, and Sweden has announced a contribution of €42 million. Estonia will donate an entire power unit of a 200 MW thermal power plant to Ukraine. We appreciate this solidarity of our partners and friends,’ said Denys Shmyhal.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba noted that this assistance will provide electricity to approximately 150,000 Ukrainians.
‘I am particularly grateful to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Margus Tsahkna, the Estonian government and all Estonians for supporting Ukraine's recovery with practical steps today. We are talking about infrastructure facilities in the Zhytomyr region, as well as critical assistance to the energy system. Estonia is handing over a power unit to Ukraine that will provide electricity to about 150,000 Ukrainians,’ said Dmytro Kuleba.
The Estonian Embassy in Ukraine noted that the country will donate Soviet-era equipment that is perfectly suited to rebuild Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
As a reminder, Russia is deliberately trying to destroy Ukraine's energy infrastructure. One of the most recent strikes took place on the night of 1 June, when Russia used more than 50 missiles of various types and about 50 Shahed drones to attack energy companies in southern, central and western Ukraine.
