Moldovan Court Arrests Member of Parliament on Suspicion of Treason in Favour of Russia
A court in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, today placed a member of the Moldovan parliament, Ion Cragne, under arrest for 30 days, who is involved in a case of high treason in favour of Russia.
This is reported by NewsMaker, Ukrinform reports.
"At the request of prosecutors, a member of the Moldovan parliament accused of high treason was placed under arrest for 30 days for further objective investigation," the prosecutor's office said.
The court announced the decision in the absence of the accused, who cited his health condition.
It is noted that the situation with the second suspect, a Border Police officer, will be decided later.
As Ukrinform reported, the other day, the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Affairs of Moldova confirmed the detention of two people, including a member of parliament, on suspicion of high treason in favour of Russia.
Both suspects are believed to have been recruited by an assistant military attaché at the Russian Embassy in Chisinau.
The day before, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared an employee of the Russian Embassy persona non grata in connection with the espionage case.
