One of Europe's Largest Ammunition Manufacturers to Transfer Shell Production Technology to Ukraine
One of Europe's largest ammunition manufacturers, the Norwegian arms company Nammo, will issue a licence to Ukraine to produce 155 mm artillery shells.
This was reported on the Norwegian government's website.
Nammo has signed an agreement that facilitates the licensed production of 155mm artillery shells in Ukraine by a Ukrainian defence company, the name of which has not been specified.
The Norwegian government, in turn, will provide funds to enable Nammo to transfer technology and expertise to the Ukrainian partner.
‘It is very important for Ukraine and for our own security that Norway continues to support Ukraine's defence struggle. Cooperation with the Ukrainian defence industry is a wise and effective way to support the Ukrainian armed forces,’ commented Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.
In practice, the decision means that Ukraine will be able to start production of 155 mm calibre shells manufactured using the technology of Nammo, one of Europe's largest ammunition manufacturers.
In March, the Norwegian government allowed Norwegian defence companies to apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a licence to transfer technology to Ukraine.
This is part of the Nansen programme, a multi-year assistance plan for Ukraine for 2023-2027 worth 75 billion kroner ($6.8 billion). Earlier, Oslo did not rule out that this funding would be increased.
As The Gaze previously reported, in July, Ukraine and the Czech Republic signed an agreement on joint arms production in Ukraine.
