Ukrainian Women Fencers Win Gold at the Paris Olympics
The Ukrainian women's national team won a gold medal in the team fencing competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
This was reported on Facebook by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and the National Fencing Federation of Ukraine.
"Olha Kharlan, Alina Komashchuk, Olena Kravatska and Yulia Bakastova are Olympic champions in team sabre!" - reads the committee's post.
In the final, the Ukrainians won a strong-willed victory over the South Korean team with a score of 45:42.
This is Ukraine's first gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics and its third medal overall in Paris.
In the opening round, the Ukrainian national team defeated Italy, winning five out of nine bouts - 45:39. In particular, Kharlan won all three of her matches.
They performed even more convincingly in the semi-finals - 45:32 against Japan. The opponents won only one of the nine bouts, with Kharlan and Komashchuk winning all their matches.
As The Gaze previously reported, on 29 July, Ukraine won its first medal at the 2024 Olympics. It was won by fencer Olha Kharlan, who won bronze in the individual sabre competition.
The second medal, a silver, was won by Ukrainian shooter Serhiy Kulish in the 50-metre rifle event.
