European and world leaders have expressed their support for Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following incomplete talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House.

EU

‘Ukraine is Europe! We stand by Ukraine. We will strengthen our support for Ukraine so that it can continue to repel the aggressor. Today it has become clear that the free world needs a new leader. It is up to us, the Europeans, to take up this challenge,’ wrote High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

European Commission

‘Your dignity honours the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You will never be alone, dear President Zelenskyy. We will continue to work with you for a just and sustainable peace,’ wrote European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Germany

‘Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyy, we support Ukraine in good times and in times of trial. We must never confuse the aggressor and the victim in this terrible war,’ CDU leader Friedrich Merz, who will become the next German Chancellor, wrote on social media platform X.

‘Ukraine is not alone. Germany, together with our European allies, stands with Ukraine - and against Russian aggression. Ukraine can rely on the unwavering support of Germany, Europe and other countries,’ added German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock.

‘The scenes from the White House are shocking. How can you stab the president of an occupied country in the back like that? A free Europe will not betray Ukraine,’ Johann Wadeful, deputy leader of the CDU-CSU party, wrote in X.

‘No one wants peace more than the citizens of Ukraine! That is why we are working together to find a way to a lasting and just peace. Ukraine can rely on Germany - and on Europe,’ wrote current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on X (Twitter).

Canada

‘Russia has illegally and unjustifiably invaded Ukraine. For three years now, Ukrainians have fought with courage and resilience. Their fight for democracy, freedom and sovereignty is a fight that matters to all of us. Canada will continue to support Ukraine and Ukrainians in achieving a just and lasting peace,’ Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote on Twitter.

Poland

‘Dear Zelenskyy, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone,’ Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on social media platform X.

France

‘Russia is an aggressor, Ukraine is a country that has been aggressed. We must respect those who fought from the very beginning,’ French President Macron said.

Moldova

‘The truth is simple. Russia attacked Ukraine. Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine is defending its freedom and ours. We stand with Ukraine,’ added Moldovan President Maia Sandu.

Czech Republic

‘We stand with Ukraine as never before. It is time for Europe to step up its efforts,’ Czech President Petr Pavel wrote.

‘We are with Ukraine and on the side of the free world!’ added Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

Lithuania

‘Ukraine, you will never be alone,’ wrote Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.

Spain

‘Ukraine, Spain is with you,’ wrote Spanish Prime Minister Peter Sanchez in X.

Portugal

‘Ukraine can always count on Portugal,’ wrote Prime Minister Luiz Montenegro.

Norway

‘We stand with Ukraine in its struggle for a just and lasting peace,’ wrote Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The Netherlands

‘The Netherlands supports Ukraine as firmly as ever. Now more than ever. We want a lasting peace and an end to the war of aggression started by Russia. For Ukraine and its people, and for Europe,’ wrote Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schof.

Finland

‘Finland and the Finnish people stand firmly with Ukraine. We will continue our unwavering support and work towards a just and lasting peace,’ wrote Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

Estonia

‘We stand with Zelenskyy and Ukraine in our fight for freedom. Always,’ wrote Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Mihal.

Denmark

‘Dear Zelenskyy, Denmark is proud to stand with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,’ wrote Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Austria

‘We stand with Ukraine. Russia is the aggressor, and we share Ukraine's commitment to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace,’ the Austrian Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said on its website.

As a reminder, late on Friday, during a joint press conference between Trump and Zelenskyy, a dispute arose between them and the Ukrainian president left the White House early and said that Ukraine would not agree to a ceasefire without clear security guarantees.

‘Putin has violated the ceasefire 25 times. Therefore, we will not agree to a ceasefire without security guarantees. A document is not enough. We need a strong army. Russian soldiers are afraid of ours, but if we have empty warehouses, we will have nothing to defend ourselves with,’ Zelenskyy said.

He reminded that today, knowing about the talks in Washington, Putin continued to use ballistic weapons against Ukraine.

At the same time, the President of Ukraine thanked his American counterpart for the meeting and the support of the United States.

‘Thank you, America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. I thank US President Donald Trump, the Congress and the American people. Ukraine needs a just and lasting peace, and this is what we are working for,’ Zelenskyy said.

An agreement between Ukraine and the United States on the extraction of minerals and rare earth metals has not yet been signed.
