Google Has Launched a "Time Capsule" With Trends From a Quarter of a Century Ago
The giant company, Google, has created an interactive service called "Trends Time Capsule," allowing users to review the history of the most popular search trends over the last 25 years. Spoiler alert – regardless of nationality, culture, or race, Earthlings are interested in the same things.
This is mentioned on the service's official page.
The 'Time Capsule' contains the top five queries in various categories from 1999 to 2023. Special algorithms have identified people and objects that had a cultural impact in each year.
As part of the project, the company also presented a summary analysis of search queries, revealing what people have been searching for on the internet over the past 25 years.
"Over these 25 years, we've gathered a massive amount of data, including almost two decades of Google Trends data, showing that people worldwide are often interested in the same moments and that we all seek answers to the same questions," the company's post says.
In particular, the majority of people on the planet searched for achievements of outstanding athletes, the BTS and Taylor Swift artists, as well as iconic figures of the last decades such as Pokemon and Harry Potter.
"Football is the most searched sport globally, and Cristiano Ronaldo is the most sought-after athlete, demonstrating a love for a game that knows no boundaries. Taylor Swift's status as the most popular songwriter underscores the deep connection people have with her music and, consequently, with each other. And the heart emoji reveals another universal theme – our shared need for love and understanding," the company believes.
The company has also developed an interactive game called 'Search Playground,' where users find popular search queries with various clues, including athletes, musicians, characters, landmarks, things, and even food.
Finally, Google has published the most popular global queries for 2023, including "Israel-Gaza War" (news), Matthew Perry (deaths), Shakira (musicians), "Barbie" (movies), and "The Last of Us" (TV shows).
Recall that The Gaze previously reported that the Oxford Dictionary announced the word of the year 2023. It is the slang variant of the word "charisma" – "Rizz," meaning romantic attractiveness or charm.
The slang word "Rizz" gained incredible popularity after Tom Holland stated in one of his interviews that he "doesn't have any 'Rizz' at all." Later, this phrase became viral.
